Step 1: Dialogue

Why? To understand the project needs and share expertise.

Client are often experts on their problems, their site and their users. Other times, this understanding is built in conversation with a group of stakeholders.
Studio Montgomery brings expertise and experience with graphics for the built environment.

Collaboration builds better results. It weaves together new ideas and clear criteria for decision making. It leverages constraints to focus design efforts where they can have the most impact. And it makes sure everyone shares the same set of goal posts.

Step 2: Research, reflection and analysis

This foundation inspires creative thinking rooted in specific challenges and needs. Studio Montgomery brings visual and graphic tools to the table to share ideas and develop a plan tailored to the unique needs of the site, project, audience and client.

May include:

  • Circulation and sight lines
  • User journey map
  • Implementation strategy, such as pricing, permitting, code/grant compliance

Step 3: Design Exploration

Conceptual Design. Conceptual design translates the vision, thought and inspiration into visual exhibits for client review and engagement. Ideas are organized into meaningful categories and options.
What's possible? What works? What serves the needs and goals of the project?

Step 4: Design Direction & Coordination

Schematic Design. Development of a single design direction to include a full suite of applications. Exchange of information across consultant and client teams to align on locations, dimensions, color, materials and quantities

Step 5: Design Resolution.

Design Development / Bid Set. All the elements needed for apples to apples pricing, including:

  • Schedule of materials, graphic elements and sign types/graphic applications
  • Location plans
  • Messaging / final artwork
  • Detailed drawings of individual design applications

Step 6: Implementation Assistance & Review

Review. Studio Montgomery offers design assistance working closely with the client, GC, and vendors. Common elements include:

  • Review of shop drawings
  • Test fit and/or mock-up reviews
  • Review of materials, paint spray-outs, etc…

Punchwalk. Once built and installed, our team can review the final installation against the approved bid documentation and shop drawings. Observations are documented for use by the client team to address any gaps in quality and/or execution.
