Services

Studio Montgomery is a design studio focused on place and paths-of-travel.
Within the discipline of graphics, we specialize in the built environment, integrating as needed with consultant teams in architecture, landscape, civil, lighting, and fabrication.

Our services range from foundational work on vision, naming, and strategy to custom design applications requiring bid-level documentation for fabrication. Each scope of work and range of service is customized to meet client needs and budgets. We work directly with client teams and as sub-consultants.

Wayfinding and Signage

Strategy. Based on site conditions and project goals, Studio Montgomery will review circulation, sight lines, and context constraints to define a plan of action.
Final deliverables may include: Sign location plan, messaging strategy, site diagrams to organize large and/or complex spaces, before and after photo simulations, etc.

Design. Sign drawings are refined with client feedback, starting from concepts through schematic, and up to bid-level documents. Final deliverables include: 1. Schedules of graphic elements, including paint, materials, typography, icons and schedules of sign types. 2. Sign location plans and individual sign location details, as needed. 3. Sign message schedules, prototypically as dimensioned graphic standards and/or per individual sign locations, as needed.

Implementation Assistance. Coordination for pricing with other consultants. Shop drawing review for design intent. Mock-up review. Test fit documentation and site review.

Brand and Identity

Discovery & Due Diligences. Review of the competitive landscape and visual survey the context. Dialogue with the client team about goals, vision and important precedents. User journey assessment of touchpoints in social, digital and physical spaces.

Design. Graphic system of standards for logo, type, color, pattern, and any other assets needed based on the specifics of the project. May include signage design.

Donor Recognition

Capital Giving Strategy. Aligning the site plan with defined levels of giving for a holistic approach.

Design. Integrating with architecture, sight lines, and oftentimes complex levels of giving. Applications include omnibus donor walls and individually named spaces.

Standards Manual. A toolkit of codifying levels of giving and recognition through signage. Manuals include prototypical designs of all design elements including font, typographic layout, materials, color, and location. In addition to these basics and as needed by the organization, we can develop guidelines for honorifics, letter count, language regarding dedications, and special donor classifications .

Specialty Graphics

Strategy. Site specific recommendations for creative ways to activate an area and tell the stories of a place. The focus of this service is research and development of thematic elements, precedent images, and appropriate materials.

Art Program Brief. A playbook for thinking about art locations, materials, scale and connection to the site context, history, narrative, users and/or uses. The focus of this service is defining parameters for a Call for Submissions or direct commission of a custom art piece.

Design. Murals, branded landmark sculpture, paving design, custom grille work, etc. Studio Montgomery lives for one-of-kind ideas designed collaboratively with client teams.

Vision

Narrative Development. Project specific process that provides a framework for design. Most often these narratives are rooted in context. They define guiding principles, meaningful visual references, motifs for design exposition, and most importantly, inspiration and differentiation.

Naming. Each process is tailored to the project needs, the scale of stakeholder engagement, and quantifiable measures of total names needed. Names are rooted in the places they serve and surveyed for existing presence.

Master Plan Documentation

Planning Documents. Preliminary coordination documentation for stakeholder and consultation coordination as the foundation for future phases of work.

City Submittals. Based on local requirements, the level of detail required may vary. These are typically paired with a schematic level of documentation for sign drawings, locations and sign schedules.

Bridging Documents. High-level documentation of design intent and standards using written information, visuals of sign types, and planning diagrams.

Sign Standards

Tenant Sign Criteria. In alignment with neighborhood standards or the leasing/development team, Studio Montgomery can create documentation to support lease agreements or for permitting. These include visual and written standards for tenant sign design with a combination of clear written standards, visual references and quantitative standards for sign area, sign location, letter heights, illumination, etc.

Design Review. Based on existing standards, Studio Montgomery will review submittals for compliance and document review based on stakeholder needs.
